This season’s CHRISHABANA Collection Video entitled, “Now is Tomorrow” is a study in contrast. Chris has become known for his play of hard and soft – this is no exception. While the pieces that form the Spring/Summer 2012 collection are rich with colorful accents the video is stark and chilling. Chris worked with photographer Dom Smith to break down the wall between the audience and model. Each was asked to share something personal changing the viewer to voyeur. The question was straightforward, “Tell me about a crazy night out?” Some took liberties with their answers although no one failed to enchant us. Loosely based on the French parlor game Exquisite Corpse, each person’s stories became one. The feel is reminiscent of the early nineties Calvin Klein’s ads proving that even unscripted models live up to the angst and glamour projected upon them. Dom captured their essence using a keen restraint allowing truth to be the focus. Nevertheless, it’s hard to miss the jewelry as signature cage geometrics, gold faceted pieces and new surreal forms come in and out of frame.
